This notice explains what information we collect when you register for the African Union 5KM Peace Run/Walk, why we need it, who can see it and how long we keep it.
The data controller is responsible for the information you give when you register.

Your name, mobile number, email address (if you give one), preferred language and channel, gender, age group, nationality, participant category, organisation, T-shirt size, emergency contact, your answers about health and accessibility, your photo and video choice and, for participants below 18, a parent or guardian’s name and number.
To manage your registration and bib, send your confirmation and event messages, keep you safe on the day, hand out kits, and give the African Union totals that don’t identify anyone (for example by category, gender, nationality and age group).

Only a small number of organising staff can see answers about health and accessibility, and details of participants below 18. They aren’t shown on lists or at kit collection.
The event will be photographed and filmed for African Union communications. If you choose not to appear, the media team is told and will avoid featuring you, but you may still appear in crowd shots.
We use service providers to run this site and send messages: Supabase (database), Vercel (hosting), Resend (email), WhatsApp and Telegram (if you choose them) and Sentry (error monitoring). They use your information only on our instructions. We don’t sell your information or use it for marketing.

We delete all registration information 30 days after the event. Before deletion, we export an archive for the organisers; it never includes medical, accessibility or guardian details. The deletion has to be approved by a second Super Admin.
